Star Trek fans were very intrigued by the announcement of Alive Eve’s role in Star Trek Into Darkness: Carol Marcus, the mother of Captain Kirk’s son, David, in the original series timeline.
However, Chris Pine has come out to set the record straight in an interview alongside Zachary Quinto by saying that, in the new alternate timeline, things are (almost) strictly professional between the two characters.
There’s some flirting but Carol Marcus is mostly renown for her scientific skills. As for Captain Kirk? “So much happens, the action and plot is so fast, there really isn’t much time for Kirk to do anything but save the crew,” Pine said.
Both J.J. Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch have come out in full force to discuss Cumberbatch’s baddie role in Star Trek Into Darkness, John Harrison.
“He’s a terrorist; he operates as a terrorist. He has extraordinary physical powers, but also mental powers. He can sow an idea, which is as powerful as gunshots or close-hand combat, which he’s masterful in. He tears into the fabric of both the world and the Enterprise family, and he leaves behind him a trail of devastation. It’s quite exciting to watch.”
Abrams was not totally forthcoming with details, but had this to say about the character:
“The whole thing, not just his backstory, but his agenda, his plan, his secret, all that is what, for me at least, makes him such a frightening and cool villain … Also, the real villains – when they’re not just two-dimensional, angry vengeful types – don’t see themselves as the bad guy,” he went on. “They are the good guy and have complete rationale and motivation. So true to form, the character that Benedict plays has an absolute sense of right and wrong, and he’s on the right side.”
In “Space Seed,” Harrison was nearly suffocated to death on the Enterprise bridge by unfrozen superman Khan Noonien Singh.
This reminds me of when we learned via press release that Marion Cotillard would be playing Miranda Tate in “The Dark Knight Rises.”
It makes me think maybe one of Khan’s genetic supermen (perhaps even Khan Noonien Singh Jr.) assumed Harrison’s identity to infiltrate and cripple Starfleet.
Ain’t It Cool has also learned that Alice Eve (best known for She’s Out of My League) has been cast as scientist Carol Marcus, a Captain Kirk love interest first introduced by Bibi Besch in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Paramount Pictures has released the first official poster for Star Trek Into Darkness! It features Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) standing among the remains of a ruined building with a city in the backdrop.
Here the official synopsis:

Today september 11th is the birthday of actress Roxann Dawson who appeared in Baywatch, The Untouchables and Seven Days and playing recurring characters in Nightingales, Matlock, Jake and the Fatman, and The Round Table and of course you know her as B’Elanna Torres in Star Trek: Voyager.
Check out this great animated take on the TOS Theme created by The Quintek Group! Can you find the Easter Eggs that pay tribute to the series within the animation?
Here’s what the creators said about the project: “This animation is an homage to one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi television shows ever to beam down to Earth. Our goal was to try and capture the essence of what we found most enjoyable from the series for building this faux opening to this classic show.”
We talked in an older article of Benedict Cumberbatch being cast as a possible villain in the upcoming Star Trek movie. The name of said character has now leaked it seems. It is a huge spoiler so I will link the article here and let you decide if you want to click it or not. But it is huge news and I am quite excited about it!
Also it had now been confirmed that Leonard Nimoy will in fact appear.
And is has been announced that we can expect for Klingons in this one. I am starting to really look forward seeing it now!
President Obama got to meet his childhood crush, Nichelle Nichols, and even showed his Trekkie side by giving the Vulcan greeting with Nichelle, who played Lt. Uhura in the Original Series.
President Barack Obama and TOS star Nichelle Nichols pose with the Vulcan hand greeting.
President Obama, who himself boldly went where no man has gone before as the first African-American elected to the White House, is an admitted comic fan and “Star Trek” geek.
“Months ago, Pres Obama was quoted as saying that he’d had a crush on me when he was younger,” Nichols tweeted at the time of her White House visit in late February. “I asked about that & he proudly confirmed it! … President Obama also confirmed for me that he was definitely a Trekker! How wonderful is that?!”
