Chris Pine discusses Alice Eve’s role in Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek fans were very intrigued by the announcement of Alive Eve’s role in Star Trek Into Darkness: Carol Marcus, the mother of Captain Kirk’s son, David, in the original series timeline.

However, Chris Pine has come out to set the record straight in an interview alongside Zachary Quinto by saying that, in the new alternate timeline, things are (almost) strictly professional between the two characters.

There’s some flirting but Carol Marcus is mostly renown for her scientific skills. As for Captain Kirk? “So much happens, the action and plot is so fast, there really isn’t much time for Kirk to do anything but save the crew,” Pine said.

J.J. Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch talk Star Trek 2 villain

Both J.J. Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch have come out in full force to discuss Cumberbatch’s baddie role in Star Trek Into Darkness, John Harrison.

Says Cumberbatch:

“He’s a terrorist; he operates as a terrorist. He has extraordinary physical powers, but also mental powers. He can sow an idea, which is as powerful as gunshots or close-hand combat, which he’s masterful in. He tears into the fabric of both the world and the Enterprise family, and he leaves behind him a trail of devastation. It’s quite exciting to watch.”

Abrams was not totally forthcoming with details, but had this to say about the character:

“The whole thing, not just his backstory, but his agenda, his plan, his secret, all that is what, for me at least, makes him such a frightening and cool villain … Also, the real villains – when they’re not just two-dimensional, angry vengeful types – don’t see themselves as the bad guy,” he went on. “They are the good guy and have complete rationale and motivation. So true to form, the character that Benedict plays has an absolute sense of right and wrong, and he’s on the right side.”

Star Trek Into Darkness: Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve Roles Revealed

Paramount Pictures has announced that Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious character in Star Trek Into Darkness is John Harrison.

To quote our source, Ain’t It Cool News:

In “Space Seed,” Harrison was nearly suffocated to death on the Enterprise bridge by unfrozen superman Khan Noonien Singh.

This reminds me of when we learned via press release that Marion Cotillard would be playing Miranda Tate in “The Dark Knight Rises.”

It makes me think maybe one of Khan’s genetic supermen (perhaps even Khan Noonien Singh Jr.) assumed Harrison’s identity to infiltrate and cripple Starfleet.

Ain’t It Cool has also learned that Alice Eve (best known for She’s Out of My League) has been cast as scientist Carol Marcus, a Captain Kirk love interest first introduced by Bibi Besch in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Star Trek Into Darkness Movie Poster Revealed

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

Obama Is A Trekkie

President Obama got to meet his childhood crush, Nichelle Nichols, and even showed his Trekkie side by giving the Vulcan greeting with Nichelle, who played Lt. Uhura in the Original Series.

President Barack Obama and TOS star Nichelle Nichols pose with the Vulcan hand greeting.

President Obama, who himself boldly went where no man has gone before as the first African-American elected to the White House, is an admitted comic fan and “Star Trek” geek.

“Months ago, Pres Obama was quoted as saying that he’d had a crush on me when he was younger,” Nichols tweeted at the time of her White House visit in late February. “I asked about that & he proudly confirmed it! … President Obama also confirmed for me that he was definitely a Trekker! How wonderful is that?!”
